alexander wang for starbucks. wtf/barf/give me a break

So,
Starbucks is collaborating with Alexander Wang to
create t-shirts.

I had such a strong reaction to this,
something akin to nausea.
I'm not sure if I'm even aptly able to explain it.
I'll tell you what my very next thought was though.

Have you seen this movie?
Made by the same dude as Office Space and Extract,
it shows a world 500 years in the future,
where only the dumbest have procreated.
Brands rule the world,
water has been culled in public perception as "the stuff in toilets",
replaced with a big name sugary electrolyte drink.
And clothing (which is the point of this reference),
is nothing but wearable advertisements.

I love Alexander Wang, totally a brilliant designer,
but I don't get this.
I can't even seem to see any indication that this is a charity based move.
This reeks of trying.
Which is lame, sure,
but it's mostly the corporatey corporate-ness of Starbucks,
trying to find 'cool way' for advertisement and exposure
that just pisses me off.

the glory of bikes

I feel like this post might be a bit of a mind dump.
The last two days I've been obsessed with all things bicycles including really cool events, fashion videos, amazing old school bicycle models (called 'Guv'nor'!), etc etc.
I feel like there is just so much I've seen, and impressed on me,
that I don't really have a way to formulate it..
so I think I'm just going to show you what I've seen (and loved!).

Pashley Bicycles out of the UK.

Droooooool.

Now, picture yourself with the above bike,
riding through the parks of London,
all dressed in tweed,
with fellow cool folks such as yourself.
Et voila, you've got
Tweed Run.

again, kind of, drooool. :)

then i saw this video,
and loved, loved, loved it!
the soundtrack especially reminded me of some 80's movie..flight of the navigator maybe?

Joanna Goddard has this wicked collection of girls in skirts on bikes,
as part of a protest to a girl being chastised by the police for wearing a skirt while biking.

OK I'll call it there.
So you can see how my mind has been occupado for the last couple days.
I'm totally obsessed.
The bike theft gods were not so sweet to me last time around,
but I feel like my heart is now ready to love again.
Maybe this weekend?
Yippeeee!

clean it up!

Saw this last night on Joanna Goddard's website,
and ended up going back to look at it, like, three times.
Swiss artist Ursus Wehrli takes everyday scenes and reassembles them in total organization.
Check out his new book
(which I can't find for purchase anywhere)
The Art of the Clean Up.

And, as you can tell,
I've been away!
Far, far away.
To the land of home.

So here we go, back to routine, back to the grind.
Of which is as (kind of) nice to come back to as leaving for vacation.
Maybe? Almost?
