via Franca

I know, I know,
horoscopes, horoscopes..
I do believe myself heavily in being a stereotypical Pieces,
a lady of the water.
But these daily, weekly prediction things, meh.

That said,
I just read this weeks predictions via Franca Sozzani of Vogue Italia
(the very best Vogue, truly),
and it left me smiling and smiling.
So much so, that I'm making it a bit of a mantra and prayer this week
as I head to a much anticipated, and much needed trip back to the lotus homeland.

August 22-28th.
Pisces

"A nice trip gives you a good week
as you are invited by people who impress you quite a bit.
You see that you expect more of yourself
and that people recognize your efforts at being at your top.
You resolve some complex, your skin, your weight,
the way you dress by treating the problem
in a very radical way instead of complaining about it,
you fix it.
You get along well with positive people
and it has a good effect on you.
Keep progressing!"

Amen!

Adding to the coat hunt...

This coat by Miu Miu reminds me of 1950's British School girl,
and all the charm that goes along with it, sigh.

rodarte for opening ceremony

Holy crap..
three of my favorite things all combined.
Rodarte for Opening Ceremony..
shot by
Autumn DeWilde.*
Perfection doesn't get any better defined.

*Autumn DeWilde is the crazy talented photographer who shot the gorgeous Elliot Smith book a couple years ago. And come November she'll have an equally gorgeous book out on Beck. Check out her blog for snippets of Beck, Rodarte, Elijah Wood, Zooey...and other crazy creative friends that pop up. She's absolutely one of my favorite artists.

Good to be proud of your friends.

My wonderful friends
Tom and Amanda
had their wedding
featured on a french blog this past week!

Truth from the man.

I would swear that nothing but truth comes from the mouth of this man.

This man is Jeff Tweedy,
front man for my favorite band of all time, Wilco.
Found a little article online,
where he talks about inpiration and influences,
and out popped this little doozy,

""... I can’t ever think of any one specific record or book that has been a direct inspiration. It’s more like, I read and I listen until I can’t take it anymore and I wanna make something, so that’s what ends up happening."

The simplest thing to say would be that I relate.
But the whole thing just totally resounded like a gong in my being.
Love it,
love Jeff.

So badly need a winter coat. Says Julie, in August.

Massive coat hunt under way for winter.
I hope it actually gets cold here, unlike last winter, which was grey and rainy.
I want some bone chilling, fabulous coat wearing weather come November 1st.
Are you with me?

Findings thus far.

As you can see,
there is a main theme.
I'm not diverting too strongly from one strain of thought.
But that's ok. Free to be me.

Happy monday!

Chloe's Gladiator Ballerines

I'm seeing these (in print) everywhere right now.
And I can't seem to decide whether I'm for 'em.
But God knows I love Chloe,
so probably its only a matter of time.

A whole other ballgame with this dress though,
love, love, love, love.

So you say you reside in a landlocked city?

Its august in Paris (I actually wrote Vancouver,
and then had to change it..it came out automatically!)
which means,
that the city is invested with tourists,
yet at the same time been completely abandoned by its residents.
Walking around feels mildly surreal,
especially during the morning rush hour,
which is no longer so rushy.
But I'm happy, it means I get a seat on the metro,
can chill out to read,
and not worry about toppling over at every herky-jerky bend.

But more over,
it being august in Paris,
its Paris Plage time!
Every August, the city transforms
the left bank of the Seine into a boardwalk, beach paradise!
Chaise lounges, sand, stripey umbrella's,
pools for goodness sake, and this year,
Sleeping Beauty's castle out of sand.
I'm heading down there after work today,
and I'm so stoked to check it out.

In Paris, starring Mikhail Baryshnikov

I've been seeing the posters for this play/dance
all over town for the last week or so,
and I can't wait until September to go and see it.

From Mercury News,

"The ballet legend stars in "In Paris," the tale of a circle of Russian expats converging in the city of light in the '30s, inspired by an Ivan Bunin short story and directed by Russian visionary Dmitry Krymov. Romance meets mime and movement in this international collaboration, presented in French and Russian with English supertitles."

There is something incredibly magical about this photo. It draws me in everytime.

Lauren Moffatt

Totally admiring this designer's work, Lauren Moffatt.
How cute is this skirt?

I stumbled upon her after looking through some pictures
with her daughter Stella on The Glow.
A totally beautiful collection of home photo's.

And Stella's striped dress! An altered woman's shirt from H&M. So brilliant.

Simon Doonan on lipstick:

"Your 30th birthday is an important landmark.
You are now ready,
after ten years of dicking around with your personal style,
to select a signature lipstick.
This is the lipstick that will get your through thick and thin.
When you are screaming for mercy during childbirth,
this is the lipstick that will be smeared across your face.
When you kiss the corpses of your dead parents,
this is the color that will stain their cheeks.
This is the lipstick that will flow into the fine lines and wrinkles
around your mouth as the death rattle grips your throat.
Choosing this lipstick is a momentous task.
In order to complete it, you need to be slightly drunk."

Found yours yet?
I do believe I've just found mine.
Along the lines of Ms. Von Teese,
it's a fabulous red.
Chanel's Rouge Coco #19, Gabrielle.

Super, non?
